The EMU Tree Testimonials

Here you will find testimonials from educators, parents and students that have engaged Chris and his workshops. This is followed by a comprehensive list of exsisting and previous clients. (apologies if anyone has been left out!).

“Last Friday, Chris Teusner / The EMU Tree conducted four lessons in our school (Parkside Primary). Without exception he energised each group and had the most reluctant students joining in with excitement.  He taught a wide range of rhythmic activities each equally engaging. In a circle format every child was involved in every task clapping, chanting, snapping, moving and singing. It appealed to both sexes and no boys hung back. Everybody loved the chant from West Ghana. Its powerful lyrics were echoed with gusto. We were left wanting more. Everybody wants to see Chris again. Above highly recommended! Essential learning.” – Chris Fryer Year 4 Teacher Parkside PS MAY 2015

Re: Recommendation – The EMU Tree, Education and Music in Unison

“I first met Chris Teusner in mid-2012, whilst embarking on sourcing a workshop that could be run at Schools in the Barossa Valley (that would enable resilience within students and that could ultimately help them to deal with bullying within their environment). The idea of a resilience based approach had been driven by the Barossa Youth Advisory Committee, which felt that helping young people to be more resilient was the first step in tackling the effects of bullying.

Chris and I had met to discuss his school holiday program that he had been running, within the Barossa Valley, at the time, when the conversation moved into the problems I was having in finding a South Australian group that had existing workshops that I could use and implement at the schools in the region around the above issues. This conversation lead to an amazing partnership and the development of an incredible multi phased program that began in schools in 2013. This program and its development was created by Chris in consultation with a steering group of young people and stakeholders, and was tweaked and adapted over the two years to create highly effective and proven program that can be used as a complete package or individually to suit schools and different locations.

A particularly successful phase of the program was the work Chris did with all the primary schools within the Barossa and Light region. The program was engaging for all the students, and teachers that participated, specialising in group work and team participation. The primary school workshops had the added benefit of fostering relationships and creating positive memories in preparation for their high school workshops. Being able to engage with this core group was integral to the rest of the workshops occurring smoothly.

Chris has a genuine and driven commitment to empowering young people and developing unique and engaging programs, through the use of music, to accomplish this. The amazing thing, I have found, with these programs, is that students have fun with the process and workshops, whilst learning things they are not even aware that they are learning about. It’s fun, affective teaching, and it has the ability to transcend age, ability, behavioural challenges and creates a great team environment. I cannot advocate highly enough for the benefits I have witnessed Chris deliver to young people in our region.

Any program that Chris and The EMU Tree are engaged in is going to be well worth the effort.” – Kirsty Hage, Manager, Community and Culture, Barossa Council. Jan 2015.

‘The EMU Tree Workshop is a fantastic program that engages students using fun and energetic body percussion sequences and group activities to bring laughter, challenges, and life lessons to a group of students. My year 7’s were engaged, amused and challenged with the different movement sequences. They also were encouraged to persist to achieve the tasks at hand, making this a great way to teach important life skills. I would highly recommend this program to any class of students, but especially as a great lead in to aid upper primary students as they transition into High School.’  – Simon Herrmann (Year 6/7 teacher, Good Shepherd Lutheran School, Angaston) Oct 2014.

“The Unearth Workshop was an engaging and challenging program for our students. It encouraged them to step outside their comfort zone, while still having fun. A fantastic workshop. Thank you!” – Courtney Adams, Nuriootpa Primary School. November 2014.

“I really enjoyed the Unearth program. It was a great experience to get out of your comfort zone and practice coordination skills. All up it was an awesome experience and I would be more than happy to do it again.” – student from a recent Primary Workshop, November 2014.

“I really enjoyed Unearth I thought it was really creative and fun. It had good activities that puzzled your brain.” – student from a recent Primary Workshop, November 2014.

“I would like to thank you so much for your mentorship and giving me the opportunity to participate in the Resonate Program. Your advice was very valuable and much appreciated. It was such a positive experience to perform my original music among such talented artists, in such an amazing venue. What a wonderful initiative and thank you so much”. – student from Resonate Mentoring Program, November 2014.

“I just wanted to thank you for giving me such an amazing opportunity to participate in the Resonate program.  The mentoring sessions with you were so helpful and I gained so much useful information that has already helped me in writing new material.  It was also inspiring and motivating to meet the fellow musicians with the same aspirations as myself.
Thanks again for this great experience”. – student from Resonate Mentoring Program, November 2014.

“The kids loved the Music Workshop.  My son said it was his favorite Carclew workshop”. – parent, Carclew House Workshop July 2014.

I just thought that I should let you know that, The EMU Tree has inspired me to purchase a Yamaha keyboard, a recording microphone and headphones, and I getting singing lessons. I would just like to say a great big… Thank you! I will be applying to join the next workshop soon, I’m so excited! – student, Holiday Workshop 2013.

“Congratulations to City of Marion Youth Services and The EMU Tree for putting on a fantastic program for the kids and that Christian was able to work with students with the different levels of experience with playing instruments and singing.
To see the concert last night and the pride the kids showed on being able to perform in front of parents and friends was just awesome.
I do hope the Christian is able to offer this program again in the future. I know Jack loved it and met some new friends. He was beaming with pride and excitement!!!!” – Megan and Jeremy Woolford, TUNED IN Summer Music Workshop, City of Marion, January 2013.

“I really enjoyed seeing the end results of the workshop – something for everyone to be proud of.” – David Speirs Deputy Mayor & Coastal Ward Councillor | City of Marion, January 2013.

Chris’ workshop was a wonderfully challenging experience for our 9 year old daughter. At first she knew only one other class member, but by the end of the week – thanks to Chris’ creative array of team building exercises and musical and technological adventures – she felt confident enough to not only perform in her group, but also to perform a solo at the concert. Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed both the team-bonding experience of the pre-concert adrenalin rush and the on-stage performance. She was also fascinated with the editing process in making her first ever music video. The class were provided with many creative ways to convey their musical visions – the final products were truly impressive. And yet the most noticeable aspect was how much fun they were having making and starring in the music videos. We parents cannot ask for more than that! – Nicole and ED Westrich, parents from the TUNED IN Summer Music Workshop at the Barossa Arts and Convention Centre, January 2013.

“I felt that the camp was very beneficial to my son. Not only did it help improve his confidence in public performance, it also opened a whole new world to him as far as songwriting and production. I feel that he enjoyed all aspects of the camp, especially performing in front of family, friends and complete strangers, it gave him quite a buzz! The final cd is what he’s most proud of though. I think the camp was wonderful and I would definitely enroll him in future camps. Thank you for giving my son a renewed passion for performing. It’s lovely to see that spark come back to life.” – Kylie Schmaal , parent from the Junior Creative music and Video Holiday Camp at the Barossa Arts and Convention Centre, Tanunda, July 2012.

“My son gained a huge boost in confidence – being able to perform in front of an audience was something he would never have been able to do before the holiday camp”. Mel Menadue, parent from the Junior Creative Music and Video Holiday Camp at the Barossa Arts and Convention Centre, Tanunda, July 2012.

“My daughter had a great time during the week, this was the first time she’s been involved in writing and recording a song and also producing a video. This was very beneficial  to her confidence and coping skills”.– Parent from the Junior Creative Music and Video Holiday Camp at the Barosssa Arts and Convention Centre, Tanunda, July 2012.

During the workshop itself, the children experienced a truly wonderful day. All activities undertaken were thoroughly enjoyed by all children, regardless of musical or other abilities, creating a wholly inclusive day“. – Claire Nic Gabhann, Head of Music, Scoil Mobhi, Glasnevin.

His talent as a musician and as a very patient and understanding tutor are exemplary and, as a result, he has always made a positive impact on the young people he works with“. – Carol-Ann McKenna, Education Coordinator, The National Concert Hall, Dublin.

Chris Teusner is a wonderful professional, his enthusiasm for music and it’s delivery to students is remarkable, he brings the best out of everybody who he is working with, achieving more than you can expect“. – Leticia Marfil, Education Advisor, Ajuntament del Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona.

Christian is a highly motivated and inspiring facilitator and I would recommend him without reservation in the area of music and music technology workshops for students“. – Deirdre Hickey TY Programme Coordinator, Loreto College, St Stephens Green.

The students reaction to this workshop is that of great fun, creativity, exploration and all-round musical excitement shared with their peers. Christian was also involved in the professional development and training of secondary school teachers via the PPMTA ( Post Primary Music Teachers’ Association ) annual conference. He gave very successful seminars which showed how secondary school teachers could develop their own skills in promoting songwriting in the classroom“. – Angie Flynn, Head of Music, Loreto Secondary School, Balbriggan.

The experience of working with Christian Teusner has been so rewarding and beneficial that it has changed our school. The pupils who worked with Christian became positive and enthusiastic members of our school community. The workshops have had a positive impact on all aspects of school life, including the academic achievement of the pupils“. – Patricia Hayden, Principal, St Josephs Secondary School, Rush.

Below is a list of some of the schools and organisations that Christian Teusner has been involved with over the years. Many of these would participate in multiple workshops on an annual basis and would consider the workshops to be a highlight of their school year.
